GopherCon EU 2024 Athens
?? Incredibly grateful for my first Gophercon EU experience! ??? It's been an absolute blast. After attending FOSDEM , I hopped straight to Athens for the conference, making it a bit exhausting, but every moment was worth it.
The arrival day started with a dinner and an engaging chat with Stefan Gajic , another speaker I met in Florence during #golab. The following day, Stefan Gajic and I took advantage of the free time in the morning to explore the Acropolis, Hadrian Library, and both Agoras – the Roman and ancient ones.
Once we finished the sightseeing, we were fully charged for the conference. The first day revolved around fascinating conversations as each speaker had a table to speak about Go. We dove into the compiler's internals at our table and explored subjects like structure packing optimizations, goroutine internals, and escape analysis.
To top off the day, we enjoyed an incredible speaker's dinner with insightful discussions.
The second day focused on workshops, with ArdanLabs hosting two exceptional sessions, including Miki Tebeka 's "Ultimate Go" workshop and William Kennedy 's "Ultimate software design with Kubernetes." Opting for the latter, I had a captivating experience delving into domain-driven design (DDD) using Kubernetes as the infrastructure.
After the workshop, I dedicated time to exploring certain details that arose during the session, diving into POCs on Kubernetes limits and load distribution between pods.
Finally, the talks day arrived. William Kennedy started the day with an enlightening presentation on making Go aware of execution time limits on pods and the impact of different GOMAXPROCS values on application performance.
Then, it was my turn to take the stage and deliver my talk. I was overjoyed by the level of interest and the thought-provoking questions that followed – that is something that I consider a huge success.
Up next was Stefan Gajic , who discussed Zero Trust security, introducing the #openziti solution that facilitates implementing Zero Trust security within Go applications.

After a well-deserved lunch break brimming with engaging conversations, Ronna Steinberg took the stage to defend the notion that Go is Object Oriented. Her convincing arguments won over most of us, making a compelling case for Golang being an Object-Oriented language.
Closing out the talks section, ????Chris Shepherd gave an enlightening presentation on GRPC and how CloudFlare uses it, including things like incorporating validations and linters to ensure backward compatibility.
Following the talks, a panel featuring William Kennedy , Mat Ryer , and Ronna Steinberg took the stage to answer audience questions, sparking stimulating discussions with many captivating insights.
As the talks concluded, it was time for some fun. We all got together to record a #GoTime episode as a "Gophers Say" session, resulting in a funny and entertaining experience.
To wrap up the fantastic conference, some of us headed to a bar for some well-deserved relaxation and the last.
Now, as I write this from the airport, just before boarding my flight to Madrid, I cannot express enough how amazing this experience has been.
Also, I want to say thank you to all the people with whom I had the pleasure to interact, specially Wiktor Jurkiewicz , Rémi Matthey-Doret , Boris David , Diana S. , and Julia álvarez de Eulate Sainz .
