GOOOOAALLLL!!!!
Let's talk about goals for a moment.
Having something to work for is motivating and exciting, it is what gets us out of bed before the alarm clock (or the small child). Goals can key our passion, and inspire others.
One of the things about goals is that they need to be big enough to make you grow but not out of the realm of possibility. Running a marathon can be a goal, but qualifying for Boston is probably not a possibility unless you are willing to sacrifice everything else to it. Hence having goals in different areas to maintain balance.
Sharing your goals with others creates accountability and a network of support. Running partners will make sure that on a rainy Saturday you put on your running shoes instead of staying in bed, even if it is just the thought "I can't blow off So and So" or "If I don't run today, XXX will give me crap all week." Virtual motivators are effective too.
If you notice I keep using running analogies because I re-caught the running bug, and my personal physical goals for 2017 revolve around running. I have committed to Run The Year , where I will do a total of 2017 miles (combined running and walking, I'm not that insane) for 2017. I am also committed to four Ragnar races (roughly 200 mile team relay races). That's a LOT of miles. What are you doing physically for 2017?!
Professionally my goals are broken down into two groups, one for Unique Minds and one for Introduction Machine. There are obviously a variety of tasks that go into these goals as well as some general admin type stuff, but there are one or two main goals for each Division.
For Unique Minds there are two goals: one for books and one for speaking engagements. Due to some changes on the family front, I will be limited in the amount of time I can travel. So I am limiting the paid speaking engagements to 20 for the calendar year. This includes both on site and teleconferences/webinars. As for the books, we want to sell 10,000 books in 2017. This is among "Do You Want to Make MDRT, or Not?", "Financial Mistakes of Young Americans", and the as yet in-named book that will drop next year. You can get the books on Amazon or from the Unique Minds web store.
For Introduction Machine, we want to have 10,000 registered users by the end of Q1 and 25k paying users by the end of 2017. That is a big number, but it gets IM to a stand alone profitable company (making my partners happy) and will allow us to focus on truly unlocking its potential in the future. Also imagine the impact on Reps, and the number of families we will indirectly impact! So if you are reading this and haven't signed up yet, go to https://introductionmachine.com/subscription-plan/ and give it a try for a few weeks now with the code "2WEEKTRIAL" that gives you two free weeks to see how The Introduction Machine can help you reach YOUR 2017 goals.
These business goals will take continued focus (i.e. no weeks off or slacking, but daily doing the little things tht compound to greatness) and a bit of luck. Just a little luck if I run my daily activity (and with the right daily activity probability actually eliminates the luck factor completely) or if I get really lucky then I blow through the goals because I did my daily work, whether it is miles or dials.
So what are YOUR 2017 goals?!
