Bay Area residents could “very soon” hail an Uber self-driving car, CNET reports. Uber has been testing autonomous vehicles in San Francisco for the past few months, although the company is still not on the California DMV’s list of companies allowed to do so. This would not be a company first; Uber deployed self-driving cars (with a driver, not driving) in Pittsburgh this past September.

The Dow is 100 points short of 20,000, reaching all-time highs today “as a post-election rally showed no signs of fatigue,” Reuters reports. We'll know tomorrow how the "Trump Rally" reacts to an almost certain rate hike by the Fed.

Google is spinning off its self-driving car unit: Waymo will be an independent subsidiary of Alphabet. Google pioneered the purist idea of an autonomous car without any driver controls -- no steering wheel or pedals -- but Waymo will be focused on technology, "not necessarily cars.” Indeed: Google recently teamed up with Fiat Chrysler and could release a semi-autonomous version of its minivans by the end of 2017.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has delayed its first manned launch one year, to 2018. The delay can be attributed to “new launchpad fueling procedures affecting the company’s entire fleet of Falcon 9 rockets,” one of which had experienced a “catastrophic explosion” during a ground test.

Google has signed a deal to speed up its services in Cuba, a deal that both sides “hurried” to close before President Obama leaves office. Content like YouTube videos will be stored so that they can be delivered more quickly. Both sides win: Cuba gets faster internet speeds, while quicker Google services means more activity on its platforms and more ads sold.

Uber launched a groundbreaking driverless car service, stealing ahead of Detroit auto giants and Silicon Valley rivals with technology that could revolutionize transportation.

Self driving cars are random cannonballs. Not enough practical testing. A rush to market to commercialize. Not just the owners life, but whoever he hits when there is a malfunction. New F35 planes cost 150 million each, but get a Telsa for 70,000 with the same technology., keep drinking the koolaid. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/01/business/self-driving-tesla-fatal-crash-investigation.html

I would hate to be the passenger in Uber's self driving car the first time that it says,"Recalculating."
