Highlights of Google March core update 2024
Google has said that it will be making big changes to its search algorithms and rules to get rid of spammy and low-quality content on its search engine.
It is now rolling out the March 2024 Core Update, which the company says is bigger than its normal core updates.
There are changes to the algorithms in this update that will make the search results better and cut down on spam.
Better ranking for quality
One major goal of the March 2024 Core Update is to make Google's ranking systems better.
Elizabeth Tucker, Google's Director of Product for Search, said, "We're making algorithmic improvements to our core ranking systems to make sure we show the most useful information on the web and get rid of duplicate content in search results."
Since 2022, the company has been working to get rid of content that isn't helpful or original, and the March 2024 update builds on those efforts.
The improved ranking systems will be able to tell if a webpage is more useful, has a better user experience, or looks like it was made with search engines in mind rather than people.

When added to Google's other efforts, this update is supposed to cut down on low-quality, copied material in search results by 40%.
Google says:
“We believe these updates will reduce the amount of low-quality content in Search and send more traffic to helpful and high-quality sites. Based on our evaluations, we expect that the combination of this update and our previous efforts will collectively reduce low-quality, unoriginal content in search results by 40%.”
Latest Spam Policies
Google is also changing its spam rules to get rid of the "lowest-quality" content from search results along with the changes to rankings.
Google says:
“We’ll take action on more types of these manipulative behaviors starting today. While our ranking systems keep many types of low-quality content from ranking highly on Search, these updates allow us to take more targeted action under our spam policies.”
Scaled Content Abuse
Google is making it harder to use automation to make a lot of low-quality or copied material in order to trick search engines.
The new policy will focus on the wrongdoing of making a lot of content to improve your search ranking, whether it's done by people, computers, or a mix of the two.
Google says:
“This will allow us to take action on more types of content with little to no value created at scale, like pages that pretend to have answers to popular searches but fail to deliver helpful content.”
Site Reputation Abuse
Google is tackling the problem of trusted websites hosting low-quality content from third parties in an attempt to profit off the hosting site's solid reputation.
Google says:
“For example, a third party might publish payday loan reviews on a trusted educational website to gain ranking benefits from the site. Such content ranking highly in Search can confuse or mislead visitors who may have vastly different expectations for the content on a given website.”
Expired Domain Abuse
Google's new spam rules will focus on expired domain abuse, which is when expired domains are bought and used for something else to make low-quality content rank higher in search results. People may think the new material is part of the older, trusted site if this is done.
