Google's Duo App Simply For One-to-One Video Calling...

In the world of video calling apps where Skype, Facetime, even Google’s very own Hangout, Facebook and many more apps are available, In such a competitive universe of apps  Google launched Duo with a clear motto of making it a simplistic end to end encryption based one-to-one video calling app.

Google's Duo is a simple video-calling service that's available for Android and iOS .

One-to-one calling between Android phones and from Android to iPhone is very simple through Duo.

And while Android users will likely enjoy using Duo to video-call their friends, iPhone users won't find it great to use Duo to call their iPhone friends because FaceTime is already there. However, it may be good when calling up a friend who uses Android.

What’s different in Duo?

Previews with Knock Knock feature

Duo's unique feature is Knock Knock, which gives you a preview of who is calling by triggering up the camera on the other end of the line. If you're caller, you'll see a notification that says your video is visible, which means the other person can see what you're doing right at that moment in real time.

Android users can see Knock Knock regardless of whether Duo is opened or not.

On the iPhone, you'll only see it if you're in the app. Otherwise, you'll just get a notification saying someone's calling you.

You can always disable Knock Knock

If Knock Knock feature is not of your interest or you find it irritating, you can always disable it altogether in Duo's Settings menu. You can't disable Knock Knock on a individual  basis like how in WhatsApp you can hide your last seen from everyone or none, so it's Knock Knock for or for none of your Duo contacts.

Its interface is super simple

Duo has a user-friendly and simple interface. Before you begin a call, you'll see icons to start a video call. During a call, you'll see yourself (in a small little circle), and icons to mute audio, switch cameras and hang up. Video from the other line covers up your screen.

Hangouts has a list of functions but Duo is dedicated only for One-To-One-Video Calling

Duo is more specialized for one thing i.e. one on one video calling whereas Hangouts can be used on desktops, supports messaging and group chats, and has conference video calls for collaboration. Duo does one thing and one thing only: video calls on your phone or tablet.

Duo uses only phone number for sign up Unlike Hangouts, it reaches people through their phone numbers, not their Gmail.

It uses end to end data encryption, so nobody else except you can see your data.

It works on bad network connection as well

With a good Wi-Fi or data connection, the app works smoothly, both voice and video are clear and crisp but the quality goes down when there is fluctuations in signals and It keeps the video paused and audio will not stop.

With bad Wi-Fi or data connection, video seems very pixelated. but audio is clear most of the time, Once it happened that the picture of person whom I was on call with became steady and turned from color to black and white and to a stronger Wi-Fi network, however, the image is clear and audio is also stable.

Duo is simply and only 1-to-1 Video calling app

Google wanted to focus on a single objective and  didn't create Duo to be an all-in-one communication platform like Facebook, Hangout and Skype; To keep the things simple. Google believes that when there is need of video-call, people only prefer video call, they rarely want to chat.

Duo is simplest video calling service. This singular functionality frees you from having to sign in another account, make sure your friend has the same service or take time to navigate through a messy and complex interface. Plus, its end-to-end encryption means your conversations are always protected.

Duo bridges the gap between iOS and Android.

With its  Knock Knock feature, simplistic approach and data encryption, Duo makes it easy to express the motive or mood of caller before lifting the call.

Google has developed Duo to serve purpose of 1-1 calling and on purpose It is not made for group calling, video effects or text chat.
