Google and YouTube Were Blocked For Malware Malwarebytes

A problem that stopped users from accessing sites and services hosted on the google.com domain, such as Google search and YouTube, has been fixed by Malwarebytes. Numerous reports from those who were impacted state that after Malwarebytes identified and obstructed Google sites as malicious, their browsers were unable to access them.

As more people shared, they were bombarded with malware alerts pointing to numerous websites on malware-tagged google.com subdomains. “It appears that Malwarebytes released a flawed update. I was receiving persistent malware updates from Google websites and was unable to access any Google websites “said one affected client. “Real-time web protection was disabled, and it is now functioning properly. My Android phone and other Windows computers weren’t impacted because they don’t have Malwarebytes.”

In reply to the continuous flow of user reports, Malwarebytes immediately realized what was happening and explained in a tweet that this was induced by a transient issue involving a web filtering element module in the firm’s security products. The company stated, “We are aware of a short-term problem with the web filtering element of our product that could be blocking specific domains, including?https://google.com.”

Distribution of false positive updates:

For users who were affected, Malwarebytes also offered a solution that needed them to open Malwarebytes and turn off the Web Protection option in the Real-Time Protection card to deactivate the problematic module. After an hour, the creator of the anti-malware software announced that it had fixed the problem and that all users’ software would auto-update to get rid of the false positive failures. “Now that the problem has been fixed, the update ought to happen automatically. Please make sure the Malwarebytes client is updated to the most recent version if you are still having problems “Via Twitter, Malwarebytes informed the affected customers.

According to Malwarebytes VP Michael Sherwood in a discussion on the company’s forum, “Once made aware of the issue, our product team solved the problem and published an update to our web protection database (version 1.0.60360).”

“The problem should instantly go away after this update is implemented as part of the regular update procedure. In some cases, momentarily turning off the web filtering feature may be necessary to update to the most recent database.” Nevertheless, some reports claim that since some endpoints continue to show Google’s domains as being obstructed, the problem may still affect enterprise customers. The most probable answer is that Malwarebytes’ entire customer base still needs to receive the update.
