Google vs OpenAI: 10 things Bard can do that ChatGPT can’t

Bard, developed by Google, has been endowed with a multitude of capabilities that could potentially challenge the superiority of ChatGPT, created by OpenAI.

Google has announced the worldwide availability of its impressive AI chatbot Bard, accompanied by several new features to improve user satisfaction. This development coincides with the growing influence of OpenAI's ChatGPT, known for its exceptional ability to generate highly detailed responses in natural language. Google introduced Bard in March to compete with ChatGPT, which has gained significant recognition for its human-like answer generation. Bard's launch has sparked the curiosity of numerous technology enthusiasts, leading to inevitable comparisons with ChatGPT.

During the developer conference on May 10th, Google announced the global release of Bard and unveiled several improvements aimed at maintaining its competitive edge.

With the availability of both Bard and ChatGPT, it is worth examining how Google's chatbot is improving and could potentially surpass OpenAI's creation

Bard and the power of the Internet

Unlike Google Bard, ChatGPT does not come with built-in internet access and may require a web-browsing feature to use the internet. However, Bard has an advantage over OpenAI's chatbot as it is trained on a vast dataset that includes both text and code, as well as internet information. This enables Bard to provide detailed and informative answers to queries, including the latest news and fetching data from the web.

We tested Bard's ability to display the top news of the day, and while it did provide a list of significant events, some of the news items were not entirely accurate. It's worth noting that Bard is still in the experimental stage, and there is a disclaimer beneath the text input box stating that the chatbot may present inaccurate or offensive information that does not reflect Google's opinions.

Bard will be available on your smartphone

The lack of a mobile version may be the most significant drawback of ChatGPT. While users can access the chatbot through their smartphone browsers, having a dedicated app would be more convenient. In contrast, although Google Bard is not available as a mobile app, Google intends to integrate the chatbot into more of its apps and services, making it accessible to smartphone users.

Images as response

While ChatGPT excels in generating detailed text responses, it lacks the ability to generate images as part of its output. This could be because OpenAI has other properties, such as Dall-E, that specialize in image generation. In contrast, Google Bard can include images in its text responses. Although Google demonstrated this capability during the I/O event, we did not observe any images displayed in response to prompts such as "best places to visit in Kerala." It's possible that this feature is being gradually introduced.

Bard comes with a host of plugins

Google recently revealed that Bard will integrate with numerous plugins, including Walmart, Spotify, Uber Eats, Adobe Firefly, and other Google applications. In March, OpenAI also introduced comparable plugins for ChatGPT. The primary difference is that the plugins on ChatGPT are exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, a premium service that requires a $20 monthly fee.

Prompt using images

Arguably, Bard's most notable feature is its ability to use images as prompts. Users can upload images or even scan them using Google Lens to generate prompts. For example, a user who is unsure how to use their craft materials can take a picture and ask Bard for ideas. The chatbot will promptly provide craft suggestions, marking a significant advancement in prompt generation for AI chatbots.

Voice prompts

While ChatGPT lacks image and voice prompt capabilities, Google's Bard offers both to its users. The ability to use voice as a prompt can be a convenient way to receive responses while multitasking. This marks a significant advancement in prompt generation for AI chatbots, potentially making Bard the first chatbot to use voice as a prompt and surpassing its peers.

Export results to Gmail and Docs

Bard's new feature allows users to easily share results with their friends and coworkers. Each response will include like, dislike, and share buttons, with the share button providing options to export to Google Docs and Gmail drafts. This export function makes it easy to compose emails without any hassle. While ChatGPT has similar extension features, Bard has export functionality built-in by default.

Enhance search

Google Bard provides users with more control over validating the information they receive in response to their prompts. In addition to the like, dislike, and share buttons, every response also includes an option to perform a Google search on the prompt. By clicking on the Google icon, a box with related search terms will appear. Clicking on any of the topics will take the user to another page displaying the search results. Currently, ChatGPT does not offer this feature to obtain real-time search results.

The power of Gmail

Google Bard's integration with Gmail could potentially be a significant advantage as Gmail is used by more than 2 billion people worldwide. This integration will transform the way people interact with emails by providing access to an AI chatbot within the mail client. This feature could prove to be especially useful for professional communication, such as drafting proposals or sending invitations using Google Bard directly from Gmail.

Bard for coding

Google Bard outshines ChatGPT in terms of programming support as it offers assistance in over 20 programming languages, including C++, Python, Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, among others. The chatbot can provide help with code generation, debugging, and explanations to professionals. In contrast, ChatGPT falls short in this area, and OpenAI's Codex may be better suited for such purposes.

Conclusion : AI-powered chatbots have become increasingly popular, with companies like Microsoft, Google, and Meta racing to provide the most innovative and powerful versions of their AI chatbots. This race was initially sparked by the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT in September 2022, which took the world by storm. However, Google now appears to be going above and beyond to ensure that it offers the most advanced AI chatbot.
