Google versus TikTok
Social media has become the modern-day search tool, but while younger individuals are using platforms like TikTok and Instagram for discovery, there are still topics they prefer to research on Google.
As marketers, knowing which topics are highly searched on TikTok versus Google could be a game-changer in how you target your campaigns.
Here's what Forbes Advisor found in their recent study:
For TikTok, the higher-searched topics included gift ideas, hair and makeup, health and fitness, and meal ideas.
On Instagram, the searches seem a bit more sporadic. The most searched topics are hair and makeup, fashion, and interior design.
Now, Google looks very different. Instead of the aesthetic content you can find on social media, users are looking for more educational information from Google. This includes categories such as local services, restaurants, financial services, electronics, and current affairs.
So, if you're running a coffee shop and thinking, "Is it worth marketing my business on social media?" the answer is still yes. These results just show brands how important it still is to have additional pages outside of social media, such as a website or Google My Business.
