Google Updates, Joining an Advisory Board… & Online Marketing

Google's November 2024 Core Update is here (with a?Sarcastic version ?for laughs). The SEO strategy of leveraging formerly famous brands to host affiliate content is finally being blown up by Google. ?If you've ever wondered why Forbes had articles on "Best Dishwashers" or US News was rating vacation towns, it's because they were raking in ad dollars and that model is going away quickly.? ?
Another corner of the internet that I explored this week was the glossy promises of?Advisory Cloud. ?Being on an advisory board, or a board of directors, is a highly rewarding activity (status/money/stock options/strategic advice), but this is a Board networking platform where you are paying for the opportunity to give advice. Think "advisory board meets paid membership club" (spoiler: I’m cancelling, after what seemed a promising start).
It looked interesting but it is equal parts clever and cringe. Everyone on the platform is paying to be there- they are the ones forming their own boards and joining others pay-to-play boards. The reality is there are a lot of competing motivations?and not a lot of real connections. I have gotten a ton more value out of my mastermind here in DC than this platform, and it comes down to building real relationships.
