Google Unveils New Generative AI Training Courses for All Skill Levels

In a move to foster greater knowledge and understanding of generative AI, Google has recently rolled out a diverse range of training resources. These resources, meticulously crafted to cater to different skill levels, have found a new home on the Google Cloud Skills Boost platform. The launch encompasses two distinct learning paths: "Introduction to Generative AI" and "Generative AI for Developers."

The "Introduction to Generative AI" path is geared toward individuals in non-technical roles such as sales, marketing, HR, and operations. Google has designed this path to be accessible to a broad audience. It consists of introductory courses that introduce learners to the fundamental concepts of responsible AI and the business implications of generative AI.

Those opting for this introductory path can rest easy knowing that it is entirely free and can be completed in a mere 45 minutes. This path includes three essential courses: "Introduction to Generative AI," "Introduction to Large Language Models," and "Introduction to Responsible AI." All told, it takes around two hours to complete. Upon completion, learners will receive a digital skill badge, a tangible testament to their foundational understanding of Google Cloud's generative AI technology.

The second path, "Generative AI for Developers," is designed for software developers, machine learning engineers, and data scientists who crave a deeper dive into the technical aspects of generative AI. However, entering this advanced path requires completing two prerequisite courses: "Introduction to Responsible AI" and "Generative AI Fundamentals."

It's important to note that the advanced path is not free. Learners will need Google Cloud credits to access the more technically intensive labs on services like Generative AI Studio and Vertex AI. Google Cloud offers an option for a Google Cloud Innovators Plus subscription, which unlocks access to all generative AI content and provides a full year of on-demand training via the Google Cloud Skills Boost program.

One standout feature of Google's generative AI training offerings is the hands-on experience it provides through various labs. These labs enable learners to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Here is a list of available labs and the corresponding Google Cloud credits required for participation:

  1. Get Started with Generative AI Studio (one credit)
  2. Generative AI with Vertex AI: Getting Started (one credit)
  3. Generative AI with Vertex AI: Prompt Design (one credit)
  4. Vertex AI PaLM API: Qwik Start (one credit)
  5. Integrate Search in Applications Using Gen AI App Builder (five credits)
  6. Prompt Design using PaLM (one credit)
  7. Explore and Evaluate Models using Model Garden (five credits)

In an intriguing twist, Google Cloud has partnered with DeepLearning.AI, led by renowned AI expert Andrew Ng. Together, they have launched a new course titled "Understanding and Applying Text Embeddings with Vertex AI." This course offers valuable insights into various AI-related topics, including classification, outlier detection, text clustering, and semantic search.
