Google Unveils New AI Models, Enhancing Reasoning Capabilities in Gemini
Google introduced its latest flagship AI model, On Wednesday, Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, alongside several other AI model updates. Additionally, the company is rolling out its Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking model within the Gemini app, aiming to enhance AI reasoning capabilities.
This launch comes as competition intensifies with Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, whose cost-effective AI reasoning models have gained significant attention, often matching or surpassing the performance of leading American tech firms. DeepSeek’s R1 model, released in December, drew widespread interest due to its affordability and accessibility via API. In response, Google appears to be positioning its Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking model more prominently through the Gemini app.
Meanwhile, Gemini 2.0 Pro, the successor to Gemini 1.5 Pro, is now the most advanced model in Google’s Gemini AI family. After a premature mention in the Gemini app’s changelog last week, the official release is now confirmed. The experimental version is available starting Wednesday through Vertex AI, Google AI Studio, and Gemini Advanced for subscribers.

It can integrate with Google Search and execute code on users' behalf. One of its standout features is its massive 2-million-token context window, capable of processing approximately 1.5 million words in a single prompt—enough to analyze all seven Harry Potter books with room to spare.
Additionally, Gemini 2.0 Flash, first announced in December, is now widely available to all Gemini app users. To further compete with DeepSeek’s momentum, Google is also launching a cost-efficient AI model, Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite. This model offers better performance than Gemini 1.5 Flash while maintaining the same price and processing speed.
