Google Tag Manager

(Hager Khaled –Article #3)

?

I am Hager Khaled a junior copywriter looking forward to be a media Buyer so that I enrolled in Growth Marketing Minidegree from?CXL Institute?in order to understand what is Growth Hacking.?

I have signed up for the Growth Marketing Midigree from CXL Institute?, and fortunately, I have granted a free scholarship. Therefore, I will be writing an article weekly, summarizing the lessons and specifically what I have learnt and understood.

?

This week, I have studied Google Tag Manager by Chris Mercer

?

?

Google Tag Manager gives you more insights about the actions of the user on the page (watching video then pressing this button- going to home page or thank you page)

?It will tell you what products were purchased or were on the cart. It also will tell you how much time they spend on your website. Thus, you will be acquainted with the behaviors of your customers.

It stores data and then sends it to Facebook or Google Analytics

This helpful information will be sent to your Google Analytics Account.

What is more interesting about Google Tag Manger is that you can tell it when the customer completed a purchase fire a pixel to Facebook or Google Analytics account ???

The difference between Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager resides in that Google Analytics’ role is based on collecting, storing, and creating report. However, it is not good at collecting data compared to Google Tag Manager; it does not track page views, where the user clicks. So we use Google Tag Manager to collect data instead of Google Analytics.?

?

Google Tag Manager is designed to provide you with a detailed script instead of copying and pasting codes.

There are two kinds of tags, Custom HTML and Built-in.??

Tags are simply what you want Google Tag Manger to tell Facebook or Hotjar or even other application.

?Triggers are used to tell Facebook or Google ads when there is a conversion, or page view.

There are different types of triggers such as Page view, Clicks, engagement occurs ( Form, event, Scroll down, watching YouTube video) and when these triggers occur , your tags fire up

?watching video enables you to know when they stop watching or pauses , which part they watch.

Variables are the basic information that Google Tag Manager needs to do its job

There are various types of variables such as cookies, URL, custom Java script, Data layer, elements of Visibility, and look-up tables.

Data layer is a temporary storage.

?

Make sure who you make him an admin as the admin will have the right to delete all the account and kick you!! Take care of whom you give this permission.

You should also manage the users. You can give them limited access according to their job. One publishes and the other edits.

?

You do not have to create a new account for a new different website, just create a new container. So the measures of each website won't be mixed up.

To avoid Cross domain tracking, you had to set up universal analytics tags so that Google Analytics does not treat the two visits by the same user as two users.

Firstly go to GA, Admin, Tracking info, Referral exclusion list.

Secondly setting up Tag Manager, Variables, GAS variables (Google Analytics Settings variables) then add the link domain and attach a linker to override the Client IDs

?Structure of You GTM is very important. Tag Manage stores data alphabetically so you have to make use of this hierarchy.

You have to keep your GTM organized, the more containers and data you have, the more it will be confusing to you to find specific information. So, apply the descriptive naming convention like this

·??????Google Ads conversions - Ecommerce website - 2018-01 campaign

?For instance, CJ (custom Java Script) and DLV (Data layer variables)

Folders are helpful in organizing Tag manager.it keeps you more organized. You can organize by vendors, projects, team, and so on.

You can create folders for Google Analytics to put the tag related to Google analytics on it and the same you can do with Facebook.

Preview mode enables you to test the changes you have done before publishing them.

To limit changes that your users are doing and in turn which can badly affect your website

Workspace

Create a version is just like a draft or a storage point
