Google Shopping is Google’s retail site, containing a range of products from different retailers, such as Walmart and Target. The service enables customers to purchase from multiple retailers at once.
The online retailer launched a redesigned version of its Google Shopping service in the US, including a new price tracking feature.
How it works
Customers can access Google Shopping through the app, the website, or via the Shopping tab on Google search when searching for a product.
When tapping on a product, shoppers will see the option to toggle on the “price track” option.
If the price of the product drops at any time, shoppers will receive a notification on their phone. There are also plans to roll out email notifications.
The redesigned Google Shopping also lets shoppers filter for nearby products in order to find stores nearby that have that product in stock and the price.
Implications
With Google Shopping, users are able to buy directly from stores without leaving the site, using the Buy on Google option. This makes checkout more convenient for users who can use information saved in their Google Account. Google is improving the shopping experience and making it more seamless for customers through adding features such as price tracking.
Google continues to invest in creating better retail experiences for its users. Earlier this year, it unveiled a new tool known as Grow My Store to support retailers with improving their customers’ online and omnichannel experiences. Google Shopping helps Google better compete with competitors like Amazon by regaining ground in product searches.
