Is Google Rigged?

Short answer: No.

There are many different ranking factors that directly affect what shows up when you search for just about anything on Google.

It's really important to keep in mind that Google's only objective is to give you the absolute best answer to your question they possibly can to keep you coming back for more. Oh, and while you're here, why don't you be a dear and click on some of those paid links at the top.

That is, after all, how Google makes their money. And they make A LOT of it. Last year alone, Google made 109.65 Billion USD. That's enough to bank roll Alphabet, their holding company for all of their moonshot ideas. You've heard of some of them: Google Fiber, Nest, Waymo, etc..

While we're here, I'm going to go in depth on a couple of the various search factors that go into Google's algorithm, so if you're not down for some nerdy SEO talk, I'll see you next time. Thanks for stopping by.

There are many different factors that go into what shows up for any given Google search, all of which goes through a very complex algorithm to show you exactly what you were looking for.

At a very high level, here are 3 of the top factors that are weighed heavily when Google considers what websites to show on their results page to any given query:

1) Mobile Friendliness

a) Speed - how fast does your website load on desktops and mobile devices?

a) Mobile Responsiveness - is your website able to render naturally to fit any screen type?

2) On-Page

a) Content - how much unique, quality content do you have on your website? How relevant is your content to the question being asked?

b) Code - how fluently does the code behind your website communicate the facts of your business? Is Google able to understand what is on each and every page of your website?

3) Off-Page

a) Content - how much content exists outside of your website that links to you in a beneficial way and validates the facts of your business? How credible are these websites that link to you?

b) Directories - are your directories all claimed and cleaned up?

Other notable factors: your reviews and social media platforms also weigh heavily in Google's algorithm. Because Google is constantly updating their algorithm, it's impossible to know exactly what goes into it, but if you work with a good digital marketing partner, they can guide you to dominating relevant searches for the product or service you provide.
