Google is preparing to merge Chrome OS and Android: a single platform is being created

Google plans to integrate its Chrome OS and Android operating systems.

The main goal is to develop an integrated platform allowing Android devices to compete with iPads running on iPadOS. This is a strategic move aimed at improving Android tablets' functionality and increasing Chromebooks' appeal through tight integration with Android.

Deeper integration of systems

In June 2024, Google announced the transition of Chrome OS to use Android components, but a new report indicates much more ambitious plans. Full integration of both systems is expected, which will allow:

  • Give Android tablets iPad-like capabilities.
  • Improve Chromebook functionality by incorporating Chrome OS features into the new version of Android.

The development of such a system will take several years, and the rapid implementation of the new platform should not be expected. However, when this project is completed, tablets and Chromebooks will run on a common operating system that combines the best features of Android and Chrome OS. This will create a completely new experience for users, providing high performance and functionality.
