Google announced yesterday a revamp of the Google Publisher Center, which originally launched in 2014. This revamp merges two existing tools, Google News Producer and Google News Publisher Center, into one. I will post screen shots below of the new publisher center.
In addition, Google said "Content for News will now come directly from the web, just as it does for Search." So I guess Google is not going to crawl and index content from the old Google News bot anymore, which makes sense.
Below are the basic features publishers can use to personalize their publication.
- General: Add basic information about your publication, details about the location of your publications’ headquarters, contact details, and distribution settings.
- Content: Add content to your publication in the form of feeds, website URLs, or videos. Sections added under “Content” may allow your articles to appear in the Google News app.
- Verification: Ownership of the content must be verified before your publication can be submitted for approval.
- Images: Add logos that identify your publication to customize your presence in Google News.
- Ads: Set up your AdSense/AdExchange account to monetize your feed-based content.
- Content sales: If you’re submitting content via sections, the “Content sales” tab helps you sell your content by defining pricing models, as well as creating promotions.
- Advanced: The “Advanced” tab lets you set up testing groups and personalize the articles styles.
- Review & publish: Review your publication setup, identify issues, and publish it in Google News.
Settings
The “Settings” tab can be found in the left panel of the homepage. It includes 3 tabs:
- User management: Manage user access for your organization or the publication(s) you’ve submitted.
- Account settings: You can create, manage, and delete your accounts.
- Organizations settings: You can create, delete, and define your organization’s settings.
Glossary
The below terms allow publishers to understand how the Publisher Center is organized and which content types can be submitted.
- Entity: An entity is the organization or a publication.
- Organization: An organization is the entity that hosts your publication(s). An organization can host one or several publications.
- Publication: Publishers can organize and manage their content by creating Publications.
- Tip: What was called “Edition” in the former Producer tool or “Source” in the former Publisher Center is now called “Publication”.
- Publisher account: Publishers can sell content to create, manage, and delete their profile, uploadPrivacy information, sales tax, and monitor their revenue.
- Feed: To share your content with Google News, you can create an RSS feed in the “Content” tab of the Publisher Center.
- Web location: To share content from specific parts of your site, add a web location in the “Content” tab of the Publisher Center.
- Content label: Add content labels to alert Google News of a part of your site that contains news articles, and if these articles need a specific label, like satire or opinion, applied to them.
- Tip: Submitting Content labels does not guarantee your content will appear in Google News.
- Labels: Labels are a set of predefined, generally understood terms that describe the content of your news articles. They serve as hints to Google News to help classify and show your content. Lean more about what each of the labels mean.
