There was a massive blunder in Google's Cloud that led to a multi-billion-dollar Aussie pension fund getting wiped out. And it all happened because someone didn’t tick a box. Nobody's calling 'fair dinkum' on that!
A Google operator was tweaking UniSuper’s private cloud and forgot to fill in a form properly, causing the system to auto-delete data after a year. All that money went right down the dunny!
This slip-up saw $135 billion Australian, belonging to 647,000 Aussies, go up in smoke.
Google copped to the mistake, saying it wasn’t the customer’s fault. After two weeks of flat-out work, they managed to recover the lot. Crisis averted, but what a close call. I guess you could call 'Fair Dinkum' after all!
