Google is Losing Ground: Market Share Drops Below 90%
According to Statcounter, Google's share of the global search engine market has fallen below 90% for the first time in a decade and remained at this level for the last three months of 2024. In October, the search giant held 89.34% of the market, in November — 89.99%, and in December — 89.73%.
Who Took Advantage of the Situation?
AI-powered search engines like OpenAI and Perplexity have not yet significantly impacted Google's position. However, traditional competitors have shown growth:
Microsoft’s Bing secured second place with nearly 4% market share in December.
Yahoo! and Chinese search engine Baidu also improved their standings.
Conclusion: While Google remains the leader, the decline in its market share indicates growing competition from other players.
