Google Internship: Steps To Succeed

In 2019, I attended Google's BOLD Immersion Program. That lead me to being a BOLD Marketing Intern with Google in 2020. After following the five steps in this article during my internship, I converted full time in 2021 as an Associate Product Marketing Manager.

Show Up & Show Out

• Be camera-on for all meetings with less than 10 attendees
• Engage in every event, panel, training you are invited to
• Pitch your data-driven and innovative ideas to your manager

Crush Your R&R

• Be resourceful, self-sufficient, and keep your manager updated on everything
• Set expectations with your manager and exceed those expectations
• Determine deadlines with your managers and beat those deadlines

Build Your Tribe

• Be a “networker” and identify people in your org and ask to chat with them
• Ask a mix of junior and senior people to mentor and meet with you weekly
• Identify three like-minded intern buddies and meet with them weekly

Keep Receipts

• Be thoughtful about everything you do and track it daily
• Document weekly highlights and praise quotes others say about you
• Share it with your manager and send it to them before your internship ends

Join ERGs

• Be “the intern” that is in the know about what is happening in the community
• Participate in the events and follow up with the speakers and session hosts
• Sign up to be a mentee and/or buddy to others within the community group
