Google is rolling out a new feature called "Shielded Email" to Gmail, aimed at enhancing user privacy and reducing spam. This innovative feature allows users to create unique, random email aliases that forward messages to their primary Gmail account, keeping their actual email address private. Shielded Email is designed to help users avoid spam and unwanted contact, making it easier to sign up for services and share email addresses without compromising personal information.
The feature, discovered in a recent release of Google Play Services, is expected to be integrated with Android's autofill and Google Password Manager, providing a seamless experience for users when filling out forms or signing up for new services. While initially available for Android users, there is potential for broader integration in the future. Shielded Email is similar to Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, which was introduced in 2021 as part of iCloud+. By offering this functionality, Google aims to take spam prevention to the next level and provide users with greater control over their online privacy.
