Google is continuing its expansion of the Gemini AI technology across its product suite, with the latest upgrade arriving in Android Studio. The company announced the rollout of Gemini Pro to Android Studio’s existing bot, enhancing its capabilities for developers
A Brief History of Gemini in Google’s Ecosystem
The journey of Gemini began in May 2023 at the Google I/O developer event when the tech giant introduced the Studio Bot, powered by the advanced PaLM-2 foundation model. Now, this powerful AI is being integrated into Android Studio, available in over 180 countries with the Android Studio Jellyfish version. Earlier this year, Google also updated the base model for its Bard chatbot from PaLM-2 to Gemini Pro, showcasing the company’s commitment to evolving AI-driven developer tools.
What Can Developers Expect from Gemini Pro?
Just like its predecessor, Studio Bot, the new Gemini Pro bot resides within the IDE (Integrated Development Environment) of Android Studio. Developers can now leverage this enhanced AI to ask coding-related questions
Google promises that developers will notice significant improvements in various areas:
Code Completions: Enhanced suggestions and completions for more accurate and context-aware coding
Debugging Assistance: Advanced debugging support
Resource Discovery: Efficiently finding relevant coding resources and libraries.

Google’s Competitive Stance
With the introduction of Gemini Pro, Google is demonstrating its determination to compete with leading developer tools like GitHub Copilot. Last year, the company introduced the PaLM-2-based Codey assistant, designed to answer programming queries related to Google Cloud Services, further solidifying its position in the developer tool market.
