Here are my highlights on Google's most recent earnings call from a digital marketers perspective.

Alphabet and Google's leadership focus according to Sundar, Alphabet and Google CEO - Research, Infrastructure, Innovation in AI search, Global product footprint growth, Improved Velocity/Execution and Monetization.

  • Research - Gemini 1.5 pro rolled out in February, break thru in long context understanding with multimodal capability.
  • Infrastructure - the data centers are designed for AI models, 100 times more efficient AI compared to 18 months ago.
  • Search - experimenting with generative AI overviews in search. Enabled new information and supporting more advanced questions.
  • Global Product Footprint beyond Search - 2 billion monthly users.
  • Velocity and Execution - search teams were consolidated under one leader. Focused highly on products and bringing innovations to partners faster. Hiring pace slowed substantially.
  • Monetization - PMax will be brought into Gemini even further.

Quarterly Highlights

  • 1,000 new products and features rolled out with G Cloud, starts with the AI hyper computing, powered mostly by NVIDIAs latest chips.
  • Google Bits used to create short stories.
  • Customers using Workspace for cyber security purposes and benefit. Gemini is spotting threats and take action.
  • 100M YouTube premium subscribers growth was achieved.
  • Testing paid sourced content in LA for generative AI processing.

Produce Results Notes

  • Search revenues grew 14%.
  • YouTube revenue up 21%.
  • Network revenue declined 1%, interesting.
  • Smart bidding being developed out further.
  • Broad match keyword targeting now leveraging LLM (large language models).
  • PMax - February Gemini was rolled into PMax, 63% more likely to have stronger ad strength.
  • Autogenerated ads performing for movie production companies.
  • Demand Gen driving new customers leveraging YouTube shorts and Gmail, seeing cpc improvements.
  • Search experience - experimenting with new ad formats, finding ads above and below search so generation.
  • YouTube shorts increased 50% and available across all devices, watch time continues to grow.
  • WPP AI used by 35,000 people, a new collab with Google.
  • Combine revenues were $85B, up 16%, driven primarily by Search.
  • Google Marketing Live in a few weeks!
