The Medical Futurist, Author of Your Map to the Future, Global Keynote Speaker, and Futurist Researcher
What a weekend! I had the privilege to give the opening keynote at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress 2024 in Vienna where I talked about how pulmonology could be the leading example for other specialties for dealing with digital health and AI.
As a proof of that, Google is working on a tool that could diagnose diseases based on users coughing into their smartphone.
Moreover, I had a podcast with npj Digital Medicine about the future of publishing in digital health and the introduction of futures studies into life sciences.

AI COULD HELP IDENTIFY HIGH-RISK HEART PATIENTS
This is how AI could make healthcare better. It looks at 2 million patients' health records and identifies those at high risk of certain conditions like heart disease or chronic kidney disease. These patients can be called in to receive treatment or modify their medications. This is the price we pay when sharing our precious health data with AI. I'm happy to do that.

While the report makes recommendations about how to improve work conditions and fight against the endless loop of burnout, I only see AI as the potential saviour here. - What will it mean for patients's privacy?
- Do patients have to consent using an app with AI?
- Should a physician ask their healthcare institution for permission to use one?
- Will every medical record system accept such entries?
