Google confirms reason for missing Google Drive files

If you've recently encountered missing files on your Google Drive, you're not alone. In a recent development, Google Drive users have reported files disappearing, prompting the tech giant to investigate the issue. The problem has now been traced back to the Google Drive for Desktop app.

Google assures users that this issue impacts only a limited subset of users, and they are actively working on resolving it. Meanwhile, here are some recommendations to prevent accidental file deletion:

• Avoid clicking "Disconnect account" within Drive for desktop.
• Do not delete or move the app data folder located at:

- Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS

-macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS

• Optionally, if there's space on your hard drive, consider making a copy of the app data folder.

One user from South Korea mentioned their account rolled back to May 2023, making files uploaded or created after that date inaccessible.
