Google Cloud Cloud Run and GKE
Here at #AppDev Tech Field Day watching a demo of GCP Cloud Run. This is a fully managed service that allows developers or others to just upload a container and start using. No need to set up and manage a platform. While I am not sure this will cause some consternation among the platform engineering teams, the idea that Google is making this chimp simple is the kind of ease of use that cloud native stacks have been longing for since the begining.
GCP has two different platforms here. One is Cloud Run, the other is GKE which is a hosted cloud service but not fully managed. GKE is probably more what platform engineering teams would be comfortable with, allowing them to set up the platform and giving them all the dials they need configure exactly what they want.
The market probably needs and wants both of these options available to them. It will be interesting to see if over time these two offerings grow apart or somehow merge into one offering.

6 个月Direct and to the point, Alan Shimel. GKE and Cloud Run both have a place. It will be great to see how Google differentiates the messaging to its audience or if Cloud Run becomes a function of GKE.
