Google Cloud Next 2023 Wrap Up

Google Cloud hosted its first in-person Google Cloud Next event since 2019, showcasing innovations in Infrastructure, Data and AI, Workspace Collaboration, and Cybersecurity solutions. The company has achieved significant milestones, including reaching a $32B annual revenue run rate and profitability in Q2 2023. They have partnered with leading organizations such as Culture Amp, HSBC, and Wendy's and announced new relationships with companies like The Estée Lauder Companies and General Motors.

At Google Cloud Next '23, the company unveiled new offerings to help businesses benefit from generative AI and cloud technologies. These include AI-optimized infrastructure, Vertex AI developer tools for custom models and applications, Duet AI integrated into Google Workspace and Google Cloud, and various announcements in Developer Tools, Data, Security, Sustainability, and the cloud ecosystem.

Google Cloud has invested in advanced infrastructure to support gen AI capabilities. They have a global network of 38 cloud regions and aim to operate on carbon-free energy 24/7 by 2030. More than 70% of gen AI unicorns and over half of funded gen AI startups are Google Cloud customers.

The company also announced key infrastructure advancements, such as Cloud TPU v5e for cost-efficient AI training and inference, A3 VMs with NVIDIA H100 GPU for demanding gen AI and language model innovations, and GKE Enterprise for multi-cluster horizontal scaling.

These developments reflect Google Cloud's commitment to providing cutting-edge technology and tools to help customers achieve their digital transformation goals.

Google Cloud also announced several updates and new features across different areas of their services. In terms of databases, AlloyDB AI is now available in preview, allowing users to build enterprise gen AI applications. Duet AI in Database Migration Service offers AI-assisted code conversion for Oracle database code to PostgreSQL. Cloud Spanner Data Boost is now generally available, enabling analysis of Spanner data with minimal impact on transactional workloads. BigQuery Export to Bigtable Reverse ETL, a new feature in preview, allows for serving analytical insights without ETL tools. Memorystore for Redis Cluster is also available in preview, offering an open-source compatible Redis Cluster service with increased throughput.

In the field of business intelligence, Looker has introduced Duet AI in preview, allowing for AI-powered analytics. The Looker semantic layer is now open to Tableau and Microsoft Power BI. Looker Studio users now have access to Alteryx Designer Cloud and enhanced cloud connectivity. Integration with Sisu Data will be available soon, helping customers analyze data changes.

For modern infrastructure cloud, Google has unveiled A3 VMs with NVIDIA H100 GPUs for AI workloads, as well as the new Cloud TPU v5e with improved training and inference performance. Multislice technology allows for scaling AI models using Cloud TPU v5e or TPU v4 chips. Support for Cloud TPUs in GKE and AI inference on Cloud TPUs are also available.

In compute and traditional enterprise workloads, Google has introduced the Arm-based C3A VMs powered by AmpereOne processors and AMD-based C3D VMs coming soon. The AMD-based C3D VMs will offer the largest instance sizes in the general-purpose portfolio.

These updates and features from Google Cloud & Workspace aim to provide users with enhanced capabilities and optimized infrastructure for their AI workloads, databases, business intelligence, and compute needs.
