Google Cloud Journeys: A Recap of GDG Zagreb's Event with Kemal Cholovich

Recently, as a Google Developers Group Sarajevo Community Leader, I had the extraordinary privilege of engaging with the vibrant developer community at Google Developer Group (GDG) Zagreb . It was an enriching experience to share my journey and insights with a crowd so ignited by passion and curiosity.

In my talk titled "How to Level Up with 谷歌 Cloud Credentials," I endeavored to demystify the cloud, making it more accessible and understandable. I shared how developers could embark on their Google Cloud journey with a complimentary $300 Cloud Skills Boost credit value, aiming to arm them with practical skills and real-world experience and get ALL FOR FREE! This initiative is part of 谷歌 's commitment to empower and elevate the capabilities of developers across the globe.

A special thanks goes out to all who attended the session. Your enthusiasm, insightful questions, and the opportunity to connect with thought leaders like Sandro Lovni?ki , Dejan Novak , Petra Br?i? , and Marko Filipovi? made the event a memorable one. Your participation is what makes our communities vibrant and continuously evolving.

PROJECTS, PROJECTS, and PROJECTS...

We will conclude and point out with the words of the eminent University Professor Predrag Pale , who highlights the importance of projects, communication, emotions, and understanding systems, and whose opinions, ideas, and guidelines we respect, and implement in our GDG communities.

Professor Predrag Pale says:

"Imagine I give you exact and precise instructions to make a cake and that cake turns out great. Would you stop to think about what steps and rules led to it turning out so well? You wouldn't! But, if it turns out poorly, it would bother you, and you would look for what you did wrong, what needs to be fixed, and why it wasn't good. In the end, we humans learn only from mistakes!" explains Professor Predrag Pale the method he calls learning from mistakes.

The idea, he continues, is to give a person a task to make something that is relevant and important to them, and seems feasible - but the task is designed in such a way that they will surely make a mistake during the solution process and start investigating why. In such a set-up process, the teacher becomes a friend and helper to the young person, and learning then is not strenuous, boring, and frustrating.

Few things can provide as much satisfaction to a person as the learning process. But that process must be joyful, fun, and intriguing, and at the end of the process, the person needs to feel enriched, knowing or being able to do something they couldn't before.

In such a way of learning, it doesn't matter whether you use paper and pencil, a calculator, a computer, or ChatGPT! What matters is that you understand the process in the end.

Most of our education, including engineering, is reduced to acquiring skills, knowledge, and procedures and their consistent application. From elementary school mathematics, where we learn to solve problems, not creatively apply mathematical methods, to university, where students learn to pass exams and ultimately get a diploma that will get them a job.

I would give a person a diploma after they complete a small, medium, and large project. For each of these projects, I would write a description as if it were a job position and list what is needed for that "job." Then, the student can learn however they want - from the internet, books, coming to me for consultations, asking me for lectures…
In the end, I wouldn't ask if they know some mathematical formula or procedure, but about the projects. If they complete them, then they have become an engineer!
