Google allows CBD ads?
We are excited to see the news of Google Ads giving hints to lift its ban on advertisements for CBD products (that contain less than 0.3% THC).
While CBD products are available in all 50 states of the United States and many countries throughout the world, it’s still hard for companies to access mainstream advertising channels.?Businesses in California, Colorado and Puerto Rico will no longer have this limitation as of January 20.
The recent announcement from Google marks a major milestone for CBD companies as they can now compete with traditional competitors on platforms such as YouTube and other platforms owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc.?
The move is likely to open up new opportunities in the future for businesses looking to enter or expand into these markets due to increased visibility over Google search results and display ads targeting consumers in regions where CBD products can be legally administered such as North America, Europe & Latin America.
The industry responds
Industry leaders and experts have shared their excitement over the news of Google’s decision to allow advertisements for CBD products. Dale Hunt, CEO of Freedom Leaf Health, stated:
“This new policy will empower many companies who previously could not participate in mainstream marketing opportunities with Google and its large network of advertisers.”
He continued by noting:

“As more people learn about the tremendous potential benefits from cannabis and hemp-derived products, including pain relief, inflammation reduction and much more – this will open up even greater customer outreach possibilities. This should pave a way for us to reach more consumers who aren't yet aware of cannabis."
Google's move is an exciting development for CBD businesses throughout the world; however, it is important to note that there are still many regions across the globe which do not (yet) allow advertisements for CBD or other cannabinoids such as CBG or CBN.
It will be interesting to see cannabis advertisers dance around medical claims, with Google as de-facto referee.
We look forward to similar developments in Europe, where so much market potential remains untapped.
