Google and AI on the search page

Google and AI on the search page

Exciting times for Google search.?

Loads of chatter about whether Google will implement AI onto the Search page we all know and love.?

This is in response to Bing introducing it onto their platform (which is actually pretty cool if you haven't played with it yet). As well as ChatGpt4 getting a brand new upgrade called “browsing mode”. Big moves by Microsoft and Open AI.

It really makes us question… what will Google do?

Consumers already are turning away from Google to other mediums to get their answers/ideas, and this for a combination of reasons.?

  • lack of trust in big G
  • lack of confidence in the search results
  • fed up with affiliate blogs dominating the results

Users are turning to TikTok, Reddit, YouTube for more ‘authentic’ reviews and more ‘unique’ ideas.?

Does Google fear losing even more customers to Bing if they don’t integrate AI into search?

I was reading about the cost for Google to add AI to the search page.?

For Google to spit out a Generative AI response alongside the regular search results that could cost an extra 2-3c/search. (processing and server-related costs). The report estimated that if Google turned on AI results that it could cost them 3-6 Billion a year. Damn!?

Then the double whammy effect.

Google is in the ad business.

If they add an “AI” box up top, let’s say it’s the Bard Ai box on the search page, it’s going to detract attention away from ads.?

Will that mean less clicks on ads? Will it mean a totally different search page experience? How will that impact Ad revenues for Google??

That puts them in a pickle.?

Google has been nesting high up on its perch for many years now, raking in that sweet ad revenue with no real threat. Until now.

The game has changed. Thank you Microsoft and Open Ai for stirring the search engine pot and forcing a move out of big G. The AI chess match.?

Interesting to see how it all plays out.?

Your move Google.
