Google: No ads
Aged like milk? This ia a Google ad from 1999.
Back in 1999, Google was nothing more than one of those clever sites that only few early adaptors knew its existence. I also remember that searching on Google felt like using something others don’t know.
Let’s rewind the clock to 2024. Google has changed a lot over the past 24 years. Once a cool gadget, which was very convenient but seemed so amateur in visual, became an empire that reigns over the internet world.
Here’s the question. Has Google remained true to its early commitments? Absolutely not. Google has become a massive advertising platform.
But there is a big difference. Yahoo (and everybody else) gave us a fixed list of ads while Google decided to journey with the customer by creating the ads based on their search terms.? Moving the ads one page later may not seem like a big deal but it was a fundamental change in how to approach the customers. That’s why the majority of people were fine with Google until…
AI has hit the world.
Everything is comparative. Over the past few years, Google's primary focus has been expanding the scope of business rather than improving the quality of search. New AI tools give us answers and information just like Google did in 1999. It’s so easy and convenient that it makes Google look almost lost, struggling through the internet world with its eyes closed.
What would be Google’s next move? Google has been aggressive throughout 2024. It launched several new projects across hardware and software. But yet, its trajectory is not so clear to me. Perhaps they should stop broadening and start deepening.

2 个月They all change. Look at the beginnings of all big IT companies. Microsoft, Google, Facebook. They are all US firms. There is no competitor. The operating systems (Windows, MacOs, iOS, Android) are all US. Even though China is putting a lot of effort to surpass USA in many fields. Their lack of performance in IT will not allow them to be number one.
