The Goofy Zealot: Grammys & Geometric Growth

The Goofy Zealot: Grammys & Geometric Growth

“I’M GREAT!,” he said as the elevator doors closed.

Today, I heard it back for the first time.

A good friend of mine, Erick Gavin , suggested a book to me not too long ago. Don’t tell him, but I just started it today.

In “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference” Malcolm Gladwell , points out how the epidemic nature of radical change becomes a certainty. How the unexpected becomes expected through geometric progression or “geometric growth”.

Gladwell writes, “To appreciate the power of epidemics, we have to abandon this expectation of proportionality. We need to prepare ourselves for the possibility that sometimes big changes follow from small events, and that sometimes these changes can happen very quickly”.

The reason this struck a chord with me is because I actually experienced a matched response to my enthusiasm twice today. The other person that I interacted with actually repeated my words exactly, “I’m INCREDIBLE!” she exclaimed back at me proportionately.

This made me feel as if my energy had an infectious or epidemic effect. I have also been in and out of this particular location various times over the past few weeks, so observers have begun to catch on to my goofy tendencies.

“My partner said that guy is always in a good mood. We have to say what’s up to him”.

I caught up with this man later in the night when I pointed out that he was still working hard even though business hours had passed.

I soon thereafter was made aware of this man’s affiliations with internationally acclaimed, grammy-nominated, and award-winning record producers and artists. These aren’t just any successful musical artists either, they are artists that have produced some of my favorite records. But I kept it cool.

He also told me about his deep roots with the company that he was working with, Influur , and how they were able to raise over ~$5.8M in funding over the past few years.

We connected as I told him about my aspirations to manage investments for entertainers and that I am on the path to making that a reality with a broker/dealer here in Miami.

He told me that I was entering a tough market, but I was in a rush, so I only had the chance to think to myself about why he felt that way.

Earlier today, I made a point to do a better job of being authentic and genuinely connecting with anyone that returns my energy with such enthusiasm. After all, that’s really the whole point of this journey.

Besides the fact that this man returned my silly energy back to me, I have a great reason to make friends with a rising media mogul and yet another fellow zealot.

Happy Thursday! — The Goofy Zealot
