#Goodwood FOS 2022 – Hail the EV newcomers (and some of the old guard too)

My son was due to finish his GCSEs on the Thursday, so it seemed only fair that we should celebrate by spending the Friday at Goodwood.?As fellow petrol heads this would a good day out.

After buying the food and collecting my sons’ friend we were off at 8.15 (you try getting 2 teenagers out of the house before 8!)

The journey was a bit tedious due to traffic, but worth it as when we got to Goodwood, the weather was perfect, the stands were full of new cars and we could hear the squeal of tyres.

Although Goodwood is predominantly a petrol heads festival, like last year the Electric cars were out in force, with not Only Electric Avenue hosting the new cars, but several OEMs showing off their new models on their own stands as well.

?Electric Avenue was an eye to behold, with new electric cars from some of the well-known names such as Jaguar, Peugeot, Fiat, Polestar, Porsche and Ford to name a few, but new entrants included the quirky three wheeled Electra Meccanica, the Genesis (Hyundai’s premium brand) GV60 and the Lucid Air; a California luxury car brand.

The Lotus Eletre SUV, new brand Fisker Ocean SUV and the new Renault 5 EV had pride of place on a giant turn table inside Electric Avenue.

Not to be out done Lucid had another car outside, sandwiched between the Rivian R1T pickup and the glorious Charge (based on a 1967 electric Mustang).

BMW had pulled out all the stops for their 50-year anniversary, with a giant sculpture.?They were show casing their new electric ranges in what felt more like Saint Tropez than Goodwood, with a DJ, giant art structure and shiny cars, including the i7 and i Vision circular concept car.

Not to be outdone the super car fraternity was represented with the new Rimac Nevera, Porsche Tayan GTS,the Lotus Evija and the sleek Koenigsegg Gemera hybrid.?Concept cars included the Lexus Electrified sport and Polestar’s roadster

It was good to see that Arrival had progressed form a prototype to a stealth looking fully operational black LCV, with a super clean aluminium work area.

Finally, the McMurtry Speirling EV set a new hill record of 39.08 seconds beating the record held by the VW IDR.
