GOODWILL

I found the word Goodwill to be one of the hidden secrets in propping your team to do extraordinary things. I have found that, a good way to get people to do what is required of them is to show gestures of goodwill such as kindness and genuine happiness for another's success. Sometimes, showing up for a team member’s project presentation or patting them on the back and wishing them well goes a long way to assure them of your support.
Is this really necessary? Someone would ask. After all, this is just a working environment. Set goals for people and let them get on it as soon as possible. A quick question: how do you feel when you have an exam to take and your spouse walks to you in the morning and says to you, “I know you will do amazing”. Or remember when you were in eighth grade, when you had to read that long speech before the entire school on graduation day and your teacher patted you on the shoulder and said to you, “hey, I know you will make us proud. You are a good reader!” In those moments, did something light up within? Did you feel a new burst of energy to get out there and take the world on?
Yes!
It happens to even the best of us who get a good word from someone whose words mean a lot. People like teachers, departmental heads, supervisors and managers cannot be left out. True kindness expressed in either words or deeds is like a lamp lit in the dark. .
Human relations expert and author Donald Laird asserted, “Always help people increase their own self-esteem. Develop your skill in making other people feel important. There is hardly a higher compliment you can pay an individual than helping him to be useful and to find satisfaction in his usefulness.”
So next time you get the opportunity to lead a team or supervise a project, remember to be kind in your words and offer genuine encouragement and compliments that will boost the energy of the individuals on your team.
