The Challenge
Many organizations engage in an effort to address diversity and cultural competency through various training methods that often don’t deliver the impact that was hoped for. The reasons for this are clear.
1. Changing deeply held beliefs is a process, not a program
2. Distractions often keep participants from full engagement
3. Fear can stop participants from openly sharing their thoughts which is critical to the learning process
4. No time was given to process the new information and its impact on their life
The Purpose:
Each training opportunity is opening the heart to unexamined truths of history in American cultural diversity. It encompasses a deep dive into racism, socio-economics, gender and class. We explore the roots of today’s divisive climate in order to unlock our implicit biases, cognitive dissonance toward healing what divides.
As we expose tension, we identify our personal biases and flawed values. Only then can we seek healthy solutions toward building authentic relationships with people who are not like us. This process reconstructs trust and builds unity.
With the belief that “All of humanity is created in the image of God” we work to dispel the “race” myth that was intentionally established to further divide and oppress.
