Goodbye Instagram…. Hello Linkedin
This week I made the decision that I’m paring back on Twitter and shutting down my Instagram and Facebook account. Nope. I haven’t just become lazy or feel I need a social media cleanse. I’ve actually come to realise that if you want to make real waves you have to stop faffing in ponds and focus on the sea.
As part of our 2020 brand strategy Eric Fulwiler our CMO and the Media and Marketing team are doubling down on our Linkedin presence rolling out more content on a platform that casts a wide net when it comes to our target audience in financial services. And I’m following suit.
Sure social media is fun. But if we delve into the purpose of these different platforms then it becomes very clear what sort of impact they will have, and the ROI of spending time on them:
Let’s take a look:
??Great for opinions
??A place to share insights
??Short form commentary
??Community groups
??Sharing insights
??Mostly for families and general life updates
??Documentation of life
??Brand awareness
??Relies on imagery as a message driver
Tic Tok
??Let’s not even go there.
??It builds connections and therefore communities
??Where people go for jobs (have I mentioned we’re hiring??)
??Allows for long form narrative
??It’s professional therefore...
??It’s where the bankers are at.
????They are building it to be the premier place for community.
So although professional is never my priority - by that I mean I would much prefer having a rant on Twitter about how ridiculous it is to spend £9b on operating costs per year and other such incumbent madness - having the ability to really share our beliefs and narratives in more long form written or video content is where I feel it’s worth spending my time.
Where I’ve previously been spending my efforts on Twitter and Instagram, I was told by our social team last week that my LI posts receive more than quadruple the amount of organic engagements of which 45% of those readers are in decision making positions within our target market. Hello change makers!
When your mission requires educating and offering guidance to an audience who we see so often still believing the old way is the right way, providing a fraction of detail via imagery or 280 characters is just not going to hammer home what we are ultimately trying to achieve.
In moving all my efforts to Linkedin I aim to bring real context into not just what 11:FS are doing and what an awesome company we are to work for, but how the industry can help advocate and move things forwards collectively.
So whether it be through offering advice on starting a business, sharing things we have put in place that we feel have really worked or industry insights, we hope to provide value to the community in a much bigger way than we have ever done before.
So as of right now. Instagram and Facebook are permanently closed.
Linkedin I will be responding to every single message and don't worry I will throw in a rant or two I promise. ;)
Going forwards I’ll be here ??https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/davidbrear/
Let’s get a conversation started :)

4 年With 675 million users now reported and high organic reach, linkedin is a very powerful platform. Use it right until they decide to do away with the organic reach like the other platforms.

4 年Yes! I think we all should take inventory to see how each social media channel we're using is benefiting us. A more focused approach will have a stronger impact.
