A Goodbye To FOMO And Greetings To JOMO!

Are you tired of constantly feeling like you're missing out on something? Do you find yourself constantly scrolling through social media and feeling envious of others? It's time to embrace JOMO - the joy of missing out. In this article, we'll explore practical tips and techniques for practicing JOMO, including personal anecdotes, concrete examples, and research to support the benefits of mindfulness and spending time alone. Let's dive in!

First of all, kudos to you for reading this article, or else I won't even imagine how bad FOMO (fear of missing out) you’re going to get. Okay, jokes apart. Let me first take you all on an appealing journey of a girl and the ring of friends she goes along with.?

It was a season of petrichor (smelling good right) and how could one not visualize traveling to places such as Manali, Coorg, Mahabaleshwar, Lonavala, Goa, etc.? Fantasy was high at its peak and Mahira couldn't control herself imaging there and clicking pictures (for obvious reasons). On a fine evening, she and her friends gathered at a tea stall discussing the plan of where and how they'll make their fantasy come true. Everything was set. 5 days trip was planned to Manali. Suddenly, before the day of leaving, Mahira was down due to a high fever and cough. Therefore, she couldn't make it.

On the other hand, since everyone had bookings, they couldn't drop it. Thus, her friends went on and enjoyed it a lot over there. Watching pictures on social media of her friends, she had an intense FOMO (fear of missing out). Internally, she even had a thought of how they go without her. Due to these feelings, her health couldn't make progress. It became worse and she was admitted to the hospital. Is it true that FOMO has such intense effects? Let's have a look at it.?

Dangers Of Fomo

A big thanks to social media which is unfalteringly helping us find our better half but also involved in creating FOMO. While in FOMO, one is always living in other bodies than themselves. FOMO is nothing but a social comparison. Just have a look around, isn't everyone checking their phones not to miss any updates or even an episode such as trips or events? Or just look at you, how often are we on our phones?? FOMO, according to studies, has rigorous effects such as stress, insomnia, and fatigue.?

The bright side of FOMO

Fear of Missing Out -in small doses- can still be practical if it ultimately drives someone to do something satisfying for them. FOMO may act as a catalyst to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone.

Turning FOMO into JOMO!

JOMO is nothing but the adverse of FOMO. It's the Joy Of Missing Out. The joy you feel by canceling the plan on time ( and your friends often blaming you for that) and enjoying your own company ( away from social media of course). It's just being there in the present moment, with music or say your journal, etc. Feeling this, you aren't missing out even with yourself. But how’s that supposed to happen? Let's see further.

Embracing "JOMO"

Spend time with yourself

Use your sense and feel being in the present moment. Through ears, hear the cooing of the cuckoo. Through the skin, feel the early sunlight on your skin. Through the nose, smell the freshness of petrichor. Through your eyes, try to see heaven ( by not dying for sure). Through your tongue, feel the taste of your favorite dish. See how mesmerizing the experience can go.?

Practice gratitude

A simple thank you for what you have and who you are with can change your mindset like forever if followed daily. It's nothing but keeping our loved ones close to our hearts and being kind to others and ourselves.

Breathing exercise

Have a deep inhaling and exhale at least for 5 minutes daily. See how oxygen goes into your veins and releases all the stress along with carbon dioxide while exhaling. Breathing is the very essence of life, so why not enjoy it?

Go for a walk

Take yourself on a date. Go on a walk and just help your body go healthy more thereby doing some sort of exercise.

Stop multitasking

Multi-tasking is also a way of creating a mess in your mind. Focus on one thing when you're in it. If you're eating, focus on the same ( or else food may mind you ignoring it and you may not digest it)?

People in the coffin won't think about the events, trips, or parties they went to or missed. They will remember their families, their careers, and how they work for it to achieve. In short, whatever life gave them, were they able to make the most use of it or not? On this note, here's a short story that'll best explain FOMO and JOMO-

The Journey Of Joy!

The journey of joy

Is way beyond remembering,

And the joy of missing out

Lets you meet your being

It begins with knowing oneself

enjoy, love, and care

The pleasure is all yours

When you are with yourself there

Fear will surely make you rest in peace

Until and unless you enjoy the present at ease

FOMO is what they call it

When you miss out on anything

JOMO is what we call

When you never miss out on your being!
