Covid 19 CAN BE TREATED WHILE WAITING FOR THESE VACCINES TO WORK. WHILE ALL ARE PRESENTLY CONCENTRATING ON ERADICATING THIS VIRUS THROUGH MASSIVE VACCINATION, LET’S PUT THE SAME EMPHASIS ON TREATING THIS ILLNESS THAT IS KILLING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE
Hospitalized patients are all getting steroids: I advised the CDC etc for months to tx with steroids, while they advised against using them. So NOW, CDC etc, why not recommend steroids, oxygen and prophylactic antibiotics FOR HOME USE TO AVOID HOSPITALIZATION? The same exact treatment being given to so many patients in overcrowded ERs can be given at home.
And, not one hospitalized patient is being given cough suppressants, CDC, so why not alert all Covid 19 patients not to use cough suppressants.
Once Covid 19 patients develop respiratory symptoms they should be encouraged to cough.
Other treatments being given to hospitalized patients can be started at home. Covid patients should not lie in bed but should move around to help keep mucus loose, moving mucus to the upper parts of the lungs so that it can be coughed up and spit out.
Hospitalized Patients are receiving Chest physical therapy and postural drainage and percussion using gravity and percussion(clapping on the chest and/or back) to loosen the thick, sticky mucus in the lungs so it can be removed by coughing. this can be done at home. Everyone SHOULD BE EDUCATED IN USING THESE SIMPLE METHODS AT HOME IF THEY OR A RELATIVE BECOMES ILL WITH A COVID 19 RESPIRATORY ILLNESS WHICH WILL DECREASE ONE'S NEED FOR TO HOSPITALIZATION.
Many Covid 19 patients have remained home, in bed, afraid to go to hospitals for fear of dying, being alone (no visitors allowed).... These patients, should they refuse hospitalization, should not lie on their backs but should move around; alternate lying on their stomach (prone, proning) if bedridden to prevent mucus from settling deep down in the lungs and blocking airways. Of course these patients, IN RESPIRATORY DISTRESS, should be hospitalized but this is for those who refuse to go, and there have been many.
Most importantly, everyone during this time should contact their physician immediately if one develops respiratory symptoms; you should assume you have Covid 19 UNTILL TESTED.
ANYONE WITH A NEW RESPIRATORY ILLNESS WITH SHORTNESS OF BREATH NEEDS TO CONTACT THEIR DICTOR IMMEDIATELY.
Let’s hope that immunity from the Covid 19 vaccines is effective and long lasting.

(Steroids should be used early on, unless contraindicated to decrease the abnormal inflammation produced by this virus that damages lung tissue and bronchodilator inhalers should be used to help keep airways open to facilitate the upward movement and expulsion of mucus, ALWAYS, IN ANY COVID 19 PATIENT ONCE THEY EXPERIENCE SHORTNESS OF BREATH.
As always, preventive measures are the most important factors in place presently to control spread of this disease, especially during these holidays.
