Goodbye to...

Yesterday, I finished an in-house training session at a client's. I was happy with my delivery and the way the people had engaged during the session and wanted to "spoil myself" afterwards. 

After dinner, I excused myself from my family for 45 minutes, jumped in my car and drove to my favourite gelato place. Those flavours seemed so divine while I was savouring them!

And what a turnaround at night! My brain was fired up. I went to bed late. Spend time on my computer. I had a hard time sleeping. 

While I usually jump out of the bed ready to seize the day, I felt sluggish, tired and slept in... 

This is NOT what high performance looks like. It made me realise that our energy reflects our previous actions.

When we do something that lifts our energy, we are guaranteed of the result. Equally, when we eat carbohydrates and refined sugar for dinner, chances are that it will affect our sleep and therefore our energy the next day.

Books like "Superhuman" by Dave Asprey summarise scientific research and personal experiments from a bio hacking perspective in a very insightful way.

My reading coupled with yet another unfortunate "Love-It-During-Regret-It-After" experience lead me to make up my mind.

From here onwards, I am officially saying goodbye to:

  • Gelato
  • Regular cakes (even the ones from Muratti) - raw ones are excluded
  • three serves of spaghetti bolognaise for dinner (can you tell I love this dish?)
  • cereals
  • fried food, including chips and french fries (try to say that to a Belgian - ha!)

I am also reducing my intake of dairy products and bread.

While I make room by cutting out or reducing certain types of food, I am also welcoming and increasing other, more wholesome types of food. 

The way I go about selecting them is in relation to two objectives:

  1. increasing longevity and health
  2. increasing energy and productivity 

Reason being: I want to live well beyond 100 years and enjoy youthfulness until I die. So by choosing me, I choose a different future. 

This is a lifestyle choice. By no means do I intend to adopt a full blown vegan, pescatarian, vegetarian, meat hating, paleo or any other extreme position. A balanced perspective takes my preference.
