What I learnt in 2022
As I wrap up another eventful year, I reflect on a few simple, life-changing lessons I learnt in 2022.
The last couple of years have been eye-opening for many of us, and we can take away so many valuable lessons from them.?
I have a long list of things that I have learnt this year, but here are the 7 of my favourites; some of them repeat as I continue to reinforce the learnings. They may look basic and simple, but each of us are on a different stages of the journey of life.
1. Learning to Say No: I have kind of been a serial pleaser for a while. Perhaps it came about from my wanting to help as many people as I can. One of the biggest lessons I learnt in 2022 is how to say NO.?
It is healthy and sometimes essential to say no so you can best prioritise your time and energy in the right places. I realised that I began to spread myself too thin and stretched beyond my capacity and capabilities due to my eagerness to help others.
Try saying NO. It is liberating.
2. Invest in Self: This is my favourite every year.?
We’re all lifelong learners! Whether studying for a qualification or reading more books about topics that interest us, learning never stops.?
This year again reminded me of the importance of proactively seeking out knowledge and growing mentally and spiritually.
Invest in a personal and a business coach.
There is never an end to learning.?
3. Nothing is Static in Life: Change or die is an age-old mantra that is as true today as it ever was.?
For businesses, organisations, and individuals alike, recognising the need for change and making the right decisions regarding that change is essential to survive. Without this ability to determine the importance of change, an organisation can quickly become stagnant while competitors pass it by.?
It’s natural to resist change, but instead of fighting against it, embracing change can open doors to growth opportunities, additional perspectives and a greater understanding of different worlds that have previously been unavailable or off limits due to our own personal boundaries or comfort zones.
?On a personal level, constantly evolving and adapting to new circumstances is equally essential to stay ahead of the game and reach our fullest potential.?
?Change or die – it’s as simple as that!
4. Say NO to Bullies:??It is important to be humble and nice to people but let that not be a reason to let others bully and push you.??
Bullying comes in different forms and shapes, visible and invisible. I am learning to identify them and stand my ground.
I don’t have to be part of someone else’s superiority complex, insecurity or controlling nature.
5. Be One with Nature:?Walking with my dog and spending hours in the parks has been a lifesaver on many levels. Besides getting some clarity time, nature has such a calming effect on my soul – whether it’s fresh air or the beauty of trees and birds around me – nature appreciates us as much as we appreciate nature!?

?Ignore the sceptics. Hug a tree in your backyard or a park and see what you get back.
6. Make Quick Decisions: Making quick decisions is important for success in any endeavour. Quick decision-making allows businesses to take advantage of opportunities, stay ahead of the competition, and be decisive when needed.?
The only reason you have a problem is that you haven’t made a decision.
At the end of this article, I have included a link to an e-book which will help you and your leadership team make better and faster decisions.
7. Prioritise Mental Health & Wellness:?We need to actively pursue our mental health if we want to reach our fullest potential in life – just like physical health requires daily exercise.?
Taking care of ourselves through proper nutrition, meditation, getting sufficient rest throughout the day/week & finding joy in small moments helps keep our minds happy & healthy for when stresses arise again further down life’s lane.
?2023 promises to be more challenging and stressful, so it is crucial to building resilience.
What did YOU learn in 2022 that I can add to my list?
