THE GOOD TREASURE

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things , and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things” Matthew 12:35 

On the basis of this word it is possible to go around with either a good treasure or a bad treasure in one’s heart. If a person bears evil in his heart , for example : bitterness, envy, suspicious thoughts , seeking honour, or some other evil, then it will be made manifest on certain occasions. Now and again a word will appear from the evil treasure! It has a bad taste , and it has a bad effect. 

However , in Galatians 5:22 , we read of a good treasure : love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness , faithfulness , meekness. 

A good man will bring forth good things , now from the treasure of love , and then from the treasure of joy and peace. The husband fetches all his words from a treasure of love, thankfulness, godly fear, and the wife gets her words from the same treasure! This can grow & increase. 

“Purify your souls in obedience to the truth through the Spirit to a sincere love of the brethren, and love one another fervently from the heart!” 1 Peter 1:22. If we stop purifying our souls in obedience to the truth we will soon come out of brotherly love. And without love we are nothing ! The fruit of purifying our soul is a warm brotherly love. Let us therefore always be zealous in purifying ourselves from hardness and coldness : from all evil in every form. All those who are occupied with enlarging their hearts in this way are filled with joy. 

After Paul had exhorted Timothy to godly fear and virtue , he says : “ Meditate on these things , give yourself entirely to them , that your progress may be evident to all!” 

How many people think first of Godliness and virtue when the opportunities present themselves? 

But we will experience progress when we meditate on these things , and give ourselves entirely to them. Then the good treasure will grow, and we will have more good things to bring forth.
