Good Touch Bad Touch but why should someone touch?
I was not sure whether this is the right space to share this article, then I thought there could be no better forum than LinkedIn which consists of cross-section of people young & old, professionals, self-employed, aspiring men & women across different geographies.
The violence against women is on the rise; the recent one that happened in Hyderabad where a young girl was violated by boys who are connected to high places. While I am not getting into the details, it’s very easy for moral police & some learned politicians to advise women as to how they should dress, stay at home after evening hours, not to indulge in drinking or smoking which are considered proprietary rights of only men!
Many parents teach their girl child; good touch & bad touch which of course is very essential but I think it’s even important to teach your boys right from a young age; how to behave with girls. Agree, we have little control on the content some of them watch over the net; but constant education & engagement by the parents will do a world of good for the children.
Do your children trust you? Do they share all personal matters with you? Have you created a friendly environment at your home to patiently listen to your children without judging them?
If your answer is NO for any of the above, you need to carry out some serious introspection; your friendly engagement with you children will go a long way in creating an environment conducive not only at home, even at the school and among their friends. I have seen many working parents leave the girl child under the care of the maid or homecare which is perfectly fine. But if such a person is a male, your close interaction with your daughter is absolutely essential on a day to day basis to ensure things are going right!
We often read, quite a few violations that happen to women is through acquaintances they have made through Social media or some of them fall victim to false job promises and quite a few get into wrong money dealings. But the fact of the matter is unlike in many Western countries, you will agree with me that we have scant respect for Law & rather find avenues to circumvent them; I find, in this Platform a few honorable Ministers and Parliamentarians hence I’m taking the liberty of tagging them so as to ensure some drastic changes in law are brought about in order to demonstrate that people need to fear law. But having said all the above, I still feel as parents we are responsible for any such acts of the Children & one of the ways to tackle this is to constantly engage with them, treat them as your friends, trust them, understand their problems & most importantly give them all freedom while teaching them good values!
They will then realize what it means when we say good touch – may be an affectionate hug every day!
Cheers & Best!
