"We don't remember days, we remember moments." Casare Pavese
This is true. I don’t remember anything about this day, but I remember the moments surrounding this picture well. I was six or seven, that’s me on the bottom. My cousins and I were dog piling on each other on the bear rug in my aunt and uncle’s log cabin above Lake Tahoe. They lived there part or full-time for over forty-five years.
My uncle Jim grabbed his camera and suggested we growl like bears. He took several pictures in less than a minute. In some, we are all growling, in another I am grimacing and covering both ears because it was so loud. Not sure what happened to the other pictures. But I’ve always liked this one the best, as it captures just how I always felt being “up at the cabin,” with all my family, in the summer.
Cesare was right. We do remember moments. It’s spotting them in the whirlwind of daily living that is challenging.
I know I will remember this one forever.
