A Good Story about 'Changing'

This is a story I was told when I first joined Xerox, as a wide-eyed and ambitious twenty-something year old ??

?

One day, a mantis was on a dirt road looking for food when, far off in the distance, he saw a small cloud of dust. The mantis continued on his mission, in the same place, carefree and paying no attention to this. After a few minutes it was clear that the cloud was getting closer, now much bigger and accompanied by a loud noise. The Mantis thought - how strange!, but carried on his mission without moving a millimetre. Not long after, it was now obvious that the dust cloud was getting closer, and becoming much bigger, accompanied by a louder noise, like thunder. The cloud was practically on top of the mantis, who, without moving from where the it was, stood up, adopted a defence mode against the now obvious threat, and had a last thought before being crushed by a horse-drawn carriage -? the mantis had never seen anything quite like it....

?We can draw a conclusion from this story and translate into the business world.

?There are often clear signs when we need to change our strategy, and do things differently in order to get different results. Alerts that we have to act before we are 'crushed' by a competitor, or before we suffer due to market changes.

?One of the main threats companies face is market expansion. If we have a global product or solution, why should we limit the market to just where we are and what/who we know?

?This is where United Channels comes in.

?We’re your company's international commercial extension, providing experience, know-how, advice, contacts and strategy for a rapid and effective development of your business across borders, maximising opportunities for expansion and business growth in an increasingly global market.
