good revolutions
Konstantinos Konstantinidis, M.D., Ph.D.
Director - ExCtu - addressing the Health Tourism Sector "Builder Class" (a.k.a. the "growth makers" and “developers”) by providing the infrastructure supporting economic activity and enabling the system to function
…doing good by doing things in a new way
To illustrate this article, which explains the reason Contemporary Health Tourism (ht8) represents “change at system level”, I used the front cover of the book titled “Becoming a Changemaker”, by Alex Budak, a hardcover edition of which one can buy for $24.08, through Amazon (? https://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Changemaker-Actionable-Inclusive-Positive/dp/1538707764 ?).
a note on John Singer and Blue Spoon Consulting
…which needs to be read
Since this article is on the subject of “change at system level”, with regards to Health Tourism (i.e. health together with tourism), I start off by pointing out that a person who truly and deeply understands “change” – and creative destruction - (and “infrastructure”), with regards to health / healthcare, at system level – and champions it – is John Singer (? https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/johngsinger/ ??), with whom I see “eye to eye” – and have referred to his posts on a number of occasions.
To “see eye to eye” means to agree completely with someone on a particular issue or topic. Essentially, "seeing eye to eye" implies a perfect alignment of viewpoints and a harmonious understanding between individuals.
John is doing for Diabetes (an “ecosystem”), what I have done for Health Tourism (see if you want:? https://lnkd.in/dP7QrmfU? ).
He heads Blue Spoon Consulting (? https://lnkd.in/dRsFK76M? ) which specializes in constructing new industry ecosystems, and without exaggeration, is leading the next cycle of evolution (at the ecosystem level) in the healthcare market (which Andreessen Horowitz calls “the mother of all markets”).
?altering the fundamental ways in which a system operates
…in order to make it operate “better”
One purpose of this article, is to explain the reason Contemporary Health Tourism (a.k.a. – and symbolized by – ht8), represents a sterling example of “change at system level” – in other words, “systemic change”.
"change at the system level" refers to a shift in the underlying structures, rules, and relationships that govern a particular “system”.
It's about altering the fundamental ways in which a system operates, rather than just addressing individual problems or implementing isolated solutions.
Contemporary Health Tourism altered the fundamental ways in which the system operates – in order to make it operate better (the meaning of “system” is explained further down).
At this point I remind that Health Tourism was transformed and repurposed through a process known as Benevolent Disruption (a.k.a. “good revolution” - https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/doing-good-things-new-way-konstantinos-konstantinidis-m-d-ph-d--a2mwf/? ), and involved the adoption and implementation of “principles” associated with Connectional Intelligence (? https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/importance-connections-achieving-objectives-konstantinos-hfqaf/? ).
The “transformation and repurposing” was a “good revolution” which gave rise to Contemporary Health Tourism (a.k.a. – and symbolized by – ht8).
BTW, Benevolent Disruption (a.k.a. “disruption with impact”) is about doing good by doing things in a new way. And, incidentally, “Benevolent Disruption” was the name of a Google Community dedicated to disruptive technologies and ideas that improve the world we live in.
the difference between a “benevolent disruption” (good revolution) and Cosmetic Change (superficial change - without addressing the underlying issues)
…the one is about “essence” the other is about “show”
I need to remind that the undertaking to transform and repurpose Health Tourism, from its innate (original) state, aimed at addressing the shortcomings (in the form of fallacies, deficiencies and failings) – and those who read and follow “developments”, will agree that the objective has been – or is being – achieved.

The phrase "cosmetic change" refers to a superficial change that improves the appearance of something, without addressing the underlying issues. It is “superficial” and "lacks substance", in that it focuses on minor adjustments rather than fundamental alterations. The change may seem significant on the surface, but doesn't result in any real or meaningful improvement.
Those who follow what is happening in Health Tourism – or just Medical Tourism – repeatedly come across claims and assertions made by industry players – including MICE event organizers – that they are “revolutionizing” Health Tourism (or just, Medical Tourism).
I leave it to the reader to decide the validity and credibility of such claims and assertions.
No doubt, some of these “revolutionaries” are introducing “changes”, but the question being asked, and needs to be answered, is: which of these are “changes at system level” – systemic changes - as defined further up.
role of the “rebuilder”
…make “real” change happen
Those who bring about “real” change (i.e., the change makers) are also known as “rebuilders”.
And I am known for addressing the Builder Class (a.k.a. growth makers and developers -? https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/buildership-leaders-constantine-constantinides-m-d-ph-d--begof/? ) who transform - and even repurpose – sector-specific Legal Entities (ssLEs) -? https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/types-legal-entities-which-can-become-sector-specific-constantine/? .
the meaning of “system”
…a set of connected things that operate together (Cambridge Dictionary)
A “system” is a group of interacting or interrelated entities that form a unified whole.
Stated a little differently, a “system” is a group of interacting or interrelated elements (things) that act according to a set of rules to form a unified whole (Wikipedia).
Alternatively, a “system” is a group of related parts that work together (The Britannica Dictionary).
Some other dictionary definitions:
Consequently, by definition:
I may need to remind that Contemporary Health Tourism is a “system” created by connecting “dots” - ?https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/types-legal-entities-which-can-become-sector-specific-constantine/? .
