Good photographer or great photographer?
Jamie Dryden, Photographer
Commercial photography, social media management. Event coverage.
What's the difference? Where is the line?
I would use the phrase the proof is in the pudding. But how do they get those photos Jamie?! Well...
A great photographer goes the extra mile at every step of the way and they have the people skills.
They make sure all expressions are natural. They are people that you are drawn to and will feel comfortable around within a very short space of time. I won't bore you with the hundred ways they get their settings right on the equipment, that is important too but people skills are a must.
You can have the fanciest lights and camera but if the person is looking nervous, faking a smile, facing the opposite direction (this usually only applies to children and pets) then the rest of the set up counts for nothing.
There was one night I came home from a family shoot and my partner asked how it went.
I replied "usual" with a smile.
Her response "Let me guess, they invited you back for dinner sometime"
