Good Partners Make Strong Communities

Access Language Solutions is pleased to announce a new partnership with our fellow non-profit, the Marafiki Center. Marafiki means “friends” in Swahili.
The Marafiki Center, founded in 2019, exists to maintain the African culture and language of the many Swahili speakers that now call the Lexington, KY area home. Swahili is the second most spoken foreign language (behind Spanish) in the Bluegrass.
There is a consistent need for language assistance to ensure effective communication between those non-English speaking community members and non-Swahili speaking members in all aspects of daily life. The Marafiki Center is a vital partner in bridging this gap.
Access Language Solutions, along with its professional association and education arm, Kentucky Interpreter & Translator Association (KITA), provides funding for training four English-Swahili speakers who will become qualified medical and community interpreters through a generous grant from The Cralle Foundation.
Once qualified, interpreters receive a free, one-year membership to KITA, which provides them with ongoing networking, mentoring, and continuing education as they continue to grow in their new profession.
