A good parents'? struggle..

A good parents' struggle..

Hello there!

?

Welcome back to my weekly newsletter on Smart Parenting! It’s the new avatar!

What is a priority for you in your Child’s life?

Is it development of necessary skills or do you just emphasize on scoring marks?

Are marks the only deciding and defining factor to check actual competence of your child?

One time my own son was worried about an exam for which he wasn’t 100% prepared for.

He was pacing across the lobby with fast steps, as he generally does when he is anxious or worried. I called him up, sat him down on the sofa and gently asked him what was bothering him.

Kids at times just need a caring ear or someone to talk to.

He immediately opened up about his concerns with me.

When I heard that he wasn’t completely prepared for his exam and was anxious about the same, I smiled a smile of reassurance and said to him that at times this happens in life.

Despite of our best efforts, we cannot keep up with all the subjects every time.

Lapses are bound to happen in examinations.

But the idea is to remember that marks don’t define us in life.

Yes, scoring good marks is essential, but what is more essential than that is to give your 100% effort for the same.

I told him that efforts count. Also, how can he forget that acquisition of skills in life is more important than just accumulation of degrees or marks. A good skill set will enhance your chance at success manifolds. Good skills are indispensable to a personality.

My confidence in his abilities and skills, calmed him down!

He was reassured of his capabilities and instead of wasting time being anxious, he went back to his revision to make sure that no matter what are the results, he would give his 100% to the process nonetheless.

That’s what the kids need the most at times.. Faith! Faith in their abilities and decisions. This Faith will become the wind beneath their wings!

I have heard most of the parents saying that they don’t care about the marks.

But ironically, whenever I attend PTMs of my children, all I see is parents asking for the marks of toppers.

This is another example of hypocrisy.

But the bigger concern here that I’m trying to address is that 21st century isn’t about marks or report cards.

It’s about social skills, emotional skills.

In fact, at times, these skills are more important than marks in report card.

I believe the activities that are actually important for the development of a child are kept as extras in extra-curricular activities.

So, do you want your child’s report card to be more attractive or his life?

2 Productivity hacks (That actually works):-

·??????5 Second Rule- If your brain gets an instinct to do something, get up and take action in 5 seconds otherwise the procrastination bug will kill that instinct.

?·??????Trick yourself to start-?If you have a task of 6-7 long hours, or if you have to study for long hours, start by doing it for 15 minutes and once you do it for 15 minutes, you will never know when those 15 minutes get converted into 5 hours.
