Good News Story - MSXI UK
Johanna Smith BA (Hons)
Recruitment Manager / Entry To Work / Early Careers / Volume at Essex County Council and Employment Advisory Board Member at HMP Chelmsford
With Mental Health problems affecting one in four people in any given year, MSXI UK realise the importance of training our Managers and Leaders on the topic to be aware of the signs to look out for.
During the month of September we held three workshops with MIND across Colchester, Warwick and Milton Keynes, attended by over 50 of our colleagues and clients.
So what is Mental Health?
- Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social well-being – it affects how we think, feel, and act
- Our mental health helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices – it’s important at every stage of life, from childhood through adulthood
- Mental Health ranges from common problems of depression, anxiety to rarer problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
- Common symptoms include changes in mood, personality, personal habits and/or social withdrawal
Research from the Mental Health Foundation shows that 1 in 8 men have a common mental health problem during their lifetime, however may be reluctant to seek support for this or disclose mental health problems to loved ones due to the stigma attached – something which MSXI are keen to diminish! So next time you see any of your colleagues who may be experiencing any symptoms, perhaps ask them how they are, buy them a coffee or even just a simple smile to reassure and show empathy.
Tony Ronchetti, HR Manager, who attended the invaluable training in Colchester and is an avid supporter of ensuring a healthy mental attitude, commented:
“Preventing the onset of mental health problems before they occur, and supporting people to stay well, is an important approach to improving mental health in our colleagues. MSXI currently offers a counselling line and virtual GP via our Health Care provider as well as ongoing support if a colleague is too unwell to work via our permanent health insurance.”
