The Good News?

“Does it get any easier Joel?”

A question I was asked in one of our community calls this week…?

My answer surprised him…

“No”

And in a sadistic way, it kinda made him feel a bit better, he shared.

See, here’s the thing...

There will never be a time when you have no problems.?

Problems are a feature of life and business. Not a bug.

So stop wishing them away and get good at navigating them.?

Viktor Frankl said in Man Search For Meaning,?

"What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for a worthwhile goal, a freely chosen task."

So the question to ask...

Is building a coaching business a worthwhile goal?

I’m guessing you wouldn’t be reading this if it weren’t.?

I’m also guessing that no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to do this… it’s a freely chosen task, right…

So suck it up, my friend.?

If you want to build a coaching business, it’s time to get good at problems.?

And here are 11 ways I’ve got good at problems…

1. What you do on the tough days determines what you do on the extraordinary days

A principle I remind myself of on the tough days.?

See, how we respond is one of the very few things within our control. And it’s easy to respond positively when things are going well.?

But how you respond when everything goes against you is a person’s mark. That’s where you build character, identity capital, and resilience.?

2. Do less of what got me here and more of what got me there

Life and business are really quite simple.?

Do more of the things that make you feel good and get you closer to your vision.?

And less of the things that make you feel shit and further from your vision.?

(Simple. Not easy)

3. Dance

You could worry about your problems.?

Or you could dance.?

One will make you feel anxious and stressed.?

One will make you feel alive and embodied.?

Neither will move you anywhere, so may as well try approach your challenges with a smile on your face.?

4. Do the opposite of what my mind is telling me

I use my emotions as a barometer for the quality of my thinking.

When I’m anxious and overwhelmed, my mind, without fail, will be telling me to work harder. So, at that moment, I do the opposite. I down tools, slow down and get in nature.?

What follows is always clarity, inspiration and perspective.?

5. Be the ocean, not the waves

Zoom out. Whatever you are worrying about now will be forgotten in 3 months.

(Plus, we’re all eventually turning to dust anyway)

6. Consciously do hard things

Once a week, I “go dark”.

A place where I take my mind and body to their perceived edge.

A place where my lungs are screaming, my muscles burning, and my mind shouting at me to give up.?

That's the place I’m looking for.?

If I can stay present and focus on the only things I can control (breath, posture, self-talk, and effort) in those moments, I soon realise I’m nowhere near my edge and always have more to give.?

The same is true for life.

7. Life is happening for you, not to you

When my food tech business was wiped out by covid, I was broken. Four years down the drain, along with my life savings and now piles of debt…

But now I can see it was one of the best things that could have happened to me.?

It led me here. To coaching. To my calling.

I believe life has a plan for me. I aim to see how much I can surrender to that, let go, and trust.

8. Negative visualisation

A stoic practice that instantly snaps me ‘out of it’.

Imagine losing it all. I mean everything. Your family. Loved ones. Friends. House. Job. EVERYTHING.?

Now consider the problem at hand. Doesn’t seem so big, does it!?

9. Get beyond myself

Almost all problems can be solved by getting beyond ourselves and being of service.

10. Embrace the Mayhem

Life. Business. Is wild. It’s out of control. That’s what makes it fun.?

Embrace it.?

Surrender.?

Do your best.?

And let go.?

11. You don’t have a problem

It’s been said that if your problem can be solved by money, you don’t have a problem.

See, if you think that having more money will solve all your problems, you’re wrong.?

Let me give you an example…

Let’s say you needed £50k for a loved one's life-saving operation… you’d figure it out, wouldn’t you?

So, the issue at hand is not money but desire and fear. If you want it bad enough, you’ll be willing to let go of fear and lack, and act courageously and figure it out.?

When I wanted to join a $18k mastermind aimed at growing to $100k months, even though I didn’t have that money then, I figured it out and created it.

What would you add to the list??

I’d love to hear from you!

Sending love,?

Joel
