Good news for the Irish car industry (from Best Selling Cars blog)
Irish new car sales continue to grow unabated with April volumes up 10% to 10.387, leading to a year-to-date total up 26% to 93.216. This month Volkswagen is Ireland’s favourite carmaker by far despite sales down 1% to 1.258 and 12.1% share above Hyundai at 9.8% (+20%) and Ford at 8.6% (+36%). Yet this isn’t sufficient to reclaim the year-to-date top spot, still held by Toyota with 9.947 deliveries (+28%) above Hyundai at 9.828 (+41%) with VW rounding up the podium at 9.815 (+7%). Skoda (+26%), Kia (+25%), BMW (+30%), Renault (+56%) and Mercedes (+146%) also shine this month. In the models ranking, the Hyundai Tucson is back in charge – after leading both in January and February – with 510 sales and 4.9% share, cementing its year-to-date pole position at 4,823 units above the VW Golf at 3.329, also #2 in April. Notice the Kia Sportage up to #7, the Skoda Superb up to #9 and the Mercedes E-Class up to #14.
